Top 7 movies every trader should watch
I’ve got a habit that before I go bed, I either read a book or watch an influential movie.
Since I’ve already written a blog about my top 7 trading books here’s another suggestion but with movies instead, and each one of these movies involve trading, and have some information that you can pick up to become a better trader.
Here they are..
1. Wolf Of Wall Street – 2013
Based on the life story of Jordan Belford, how he went from a stock broker in NYC to the CEO of Stratton Oakmont
A funny movie with a lot of swear words, with the brilliant acting of Leonardo Di Caprio. this movie turned out to be one of the best movies in the world.
A must watch for sure !
2. Margin Call – 2011
Margin call is a must watch for everyone, especially traders.
The movie takes place around a 24-hour period before the 2007-2008 financial crises happened.
The movie follows key people in an investment bank that observe the market during it’s initial stages of the crises.
Great acting, great story line, great conclusion.
3. Boiler Room – 2000
The story is about a college dropout who has a disappointed father, takes a job as a broker for an investment firm which puts Giovanni (Seth Davis) on a fast tracking program, but he soon finds out darker secrets about the job which start making him question, how legit is it?
The movie has such amazing performance due to the great acting conducted by Ben Affleck, Seth Davis, and Vin Diesel.
10/10 Movie !
4. Inside Job – 2010
The movie is split into a 5-part documentry narrirated by Matt Damon.
The movie follows what brought upon the financial crises and how how changes in the policy environment and banking practices helped create the financial crisis.
A top watcher for those of you who like their fundamental analysis !
5. Wall Street I – 1987
Wall street is a hand down must watch for all you aspiring traders,
The story follows Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) who would do anything to get to the top and that includes doing illegal framework so at that time Bud Fox (Sheen), a young stockbroker who becomes involved with Gordon Gekko (Douglas), a wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider, where they work together to literally try get to the ‘top’
6. Wall Street II – 2010
Whether you’ve watched wall street I or not wall street II is a must WATCH.
Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) Finally gets out of prison, but due to his integrity he’s lost his respect, only for him to have a change of heart during his years in prison.
Gekko works with his future son-in-law Jacob Moore (Shia LaBeouf) a talented stockbroker, and fairly intelligent man, to take down an enemy of his in Wall Street and restore his previous legacy.
A really well formed movie, with a different story line from the original one that really teaches you how to anticipate the future.
7. FLOORED – 2009
Floored is a documentary film released in 2009. It primarily focuses on how the trading world changed over time and how electronic trading has taken over now which had a correlation to the financial crises in 2009
The film has interactions with different traders, which gives you an insight to how other traders might think and react to certain things in the market.
Something I recommend while flying out!
